Why I Choose Beautycounter
If you’ve been around for any length of time, it may be obvious that I’m a big fan of awareness and intention, aka #LifeOnPurpose, in regards to behaviors that don’t serve me, the food I eat, the money I spend, and how I move my body. I share this all here on the interwebs knowing that the things I struggle with are not unique and that I slowly changed these habits over time because someone else shared their story and experiences.
I found Beautycounter through Liz Wolfe and Diane Sanfilippo in 2017. I was intrigued by the concept of “safer skin care” and started paying attention. Not only was this company creating effective skin care products without toxic ingredients, but they were taking trips to Washington, D.C. and working behind the scenes to lobby for change as it relates to toxins in personal care products, and making it their mission (literally) to educate people on the need for removing these ingredients from the stuff we put on our largest organ, our skin.
I dipped my toe in with a charcoal cleansing bar and face mask, but soon after placed a much larger order to replace many of my daily staples with safer options. The more I learned and saw other people discussing this, the more I shared as well (we all know I love a good person/product to shout about from the rooftops). And I guess the only thing that stopped me from becoming a Consultant sooner was the fear of judgement and eye rolls from people like me who just can’t get into people never shutting up about this amazing new product that they want to sell you.
I’m happy to report that my desire to create change and educate the masses on the importance of safer skin care has finally surpassed my insecurities of being “just another MLM rep”. Because even if I never sold a single product, I would be over the moon to know that even one person started questioning what they are using.
Did You Know?
There hasn’t been a major law passed in the US to regulate the safety of ingredients in personal care products since 1938? Currently only 30 ingredients are partially banned in the United States. Canada has banned around 600 chemicals from their products, and the European Union has banned 1400 chemicals in the product formulas of personal care products and restricted the levels of over 250 more in such products.
Beautycounter prohibits the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through “The Never List™” — all while ensuring their products perform and that they’re as indulgent as any other luxe shampoo, lipstick, or oil in the market.
Decades of studies indicate that serious health issues (including but not limited to asthma, cancer, and infertility) are on the rise and are due in some part to our ongoing exposure to toxic chemicals—whether it’s in the shower, on our commute, while we eat lunch at a local restaurant, or when we clean our kitchens at home.
